Laundering your corset
Daily tight lacing can be demanding on your corset.
Luckily, your corset from Wasp Creations is designed to be worn comfortably
every day, and to hold up to the stresses of daily tightlacing. If your corset
is not cleaned regularly, the body oils and dust that accumulate on
the interior and exterior will break down the fibers of the fabric. Now, this
does not mean that your corset is going to rip at the seams. But what will happen is
that the garment will start to stretch. So, if your trusty corset is left
unattended, the once 20-inch waistline you have trained so hard for will slowly
become 21".
Cotton/Poly twill, Jacquard, Cotton brocade, and Bengaline Corsets
Place a small quantity of rather warm water into a large sink or bathtub. Add a mild soap to the water. Swish the water
until you get a nice formation of suds.
Place the corset into the water and grasping one side of the garment in each hand, move the two hands accordion fashion
together and apart. After about twenty motions, flip the corset over and repeat. Once again, flip the corset over and
repeat the above two steps.
Inspect the corset; if all spots have not yet been removed, take a soft wet sponge or wash cloth, and lightly
rub the areas that are being stubborn. Be gentle with brocade. After a few motions, the corset should be clean.
Drain the water from your tub or sink. Place the busk section of the corset in one hand so that it hangs
sideways and run lukewarm until the water becomes clear. Turn the corset over and repeat.
Next, take a very absorbent towel and lay it flat on a table. Put the still wet corset flat upon the towel.
Now roll the corset firmly into the towel and let it lie for a few minutes, to allow the towel to absorb most of the moisture.
Unroll the damp corset. Gently stretch every part of it systematically with your fingers from top to bottom,
especially along the stay pockets, to restore its original shape. Hang the corset in an airy place in the shade (avoid sunshine)
and allow to dry. After 10 or 15 minutes, again stretch the garment gently by grasping opposite points at top and bottom with
your fingers. Your corset should be dry in 6-8 hours. For even faster drying time, hang the corset in front of a fan.
Leather Corsets
You can spot clean your leather corset with cleaners available at stores. You can clean the interior
of the corset with a damp cloth. Be careful not to get the leather too wet. You can send the corset out to be dry cleaned.
Before sending your corset to the cleaners, remove the garters, as the dry cleaning solution may be harmful to the elastic.
Also, it is a good idea to know what the dry cleaners insurance is on garments. A few of my clients had their corsets
“misplaced” by the dry cleaner.
Cleaning Your Corset Liner
Your Corset Liner may be washed in your washing machine. Just set the machine for delicate cycle. Do not put the Liner in the
dryer; the heat will destroy the rubber within the spandex. Instead, hang the liner to dry. The liner should be dry in 4-5 hours.
