In late December 2005, a client whom I have made a number of corsets for the past few years had a request for a
special corset. He was looking for
a black leather corset with shoulder straps. The idea was to hold the shoulders back, while still allowing regulation without
assistance. I have made such corsets for a number of years.
This particular corset is an Underbust Mid-hip corset made in black leather.
Like all my leather corsets, cotton/poly twill was used for the interior for
increased strength and rigidity. For a smooth look under clothes, the stays
were mounted on the interior. Because I use flat metal stays, and use care concerning
their placement, there are no pressure points over the soft flesh
or bone structure. A strong, stayed zipper is used as a closure for ease of use and a smooth finish.
To hold his head up high, a matching posture collar was made. The Posture collar was also made with black leather and has steel stays
mounted at strategic points. Because the skin about the neck is very soft, care must be made to insure comfort for long-term wear.
I chose to use a soft black velvet for the interior. A small D-ring can be found at the base of the neck as an
attachment point.
The next set of photos show the corset just after the grommets were set and the laces installed. I
always like looking at a finished
corset on a clean flat surface. It shows a view that is different when worn
on the body. A
view that hides the complexities of the curves, while still
showing the field of stitching, and interconnection of materials. It is also a
welcoming view, as if the corset is saying,
"Hi there.
Lace me around you, and I will create a beautiful form upon your body. Just relinquish control to me for a period,
and I will do the work."
Perhaps my client will share photos of the finished corset?
The last set of photos are from a friend what was watching me work on the
Studio Cam. These were taken while I was getting the
corset ready for final inspection and photos.
